My cousin told me he’s going to the race and that he could hook me up with somewhere to stay. I’m looking at the cost now and seriously considering it. I can fly in to Houston for $200 (on spirit though :/) where he lives, or straight to Austin for like $400. 3 day general admission will be another $170. Good idea, oppo? Or should I be saving money for race car parts?

I went the last couple years. I’m debating whether to go this year due to the whole, “oh look, Lewis Hamilton wins buy 100 laps again ZZZZZ” If the racing continues like last time round, then I’ll go. Elton John show should be pretty damn awesome, so that’s a bonus incentive.

I’ve been to a few of the indy GP’s. If you have the means I highly suggest checking it out. It’s kind of otherworldly how F1 cars actually move in person.

Flying Spirit sucks, but it’s only a 2-1/2 or 3 hour flight from any midwest airport. If you have a hook-up on a place to stay, I’d go.

Definitely do it! I went in 2013, GA is definitely good for Friday and Saturday. You might want to consider seats for race day though. By the time we got there on race day we had a tough time even getting to our seats at turn #12.

The Japanese GP is this weekend - this should give us a bit more insight regarding Ferrari’s performance in Singapore: was it just a one-off due to the unique track or the conditions? I think Austin could potentially be an exciting race if Ferrari’s newfound pace is genuine and not just a fluke.

Good idea. Everybody should see an F1 race at least once in their life.

I agree. I’m closer to Montreal than Austin, but with a free place to stay...

I’ve been to the Alabama and Detroit GPs. Indy cars are cool

I went the first year it was held, and I say go! It’s an incredible circus that everyone should see at some point in their life. The track itself is very nice, though shade is in short supply.

I want to go if only to actually see an F1 race in person. COTA has come under fire from the sportscar crowd recently for being not very fan-friendly but I’d put up with it just for the experience.

A co-worker went in 2012 when it opened and said it was cool to see the cars (back when they were loud) but seeing a race in person has its drawbacks. At the end of the day you’re there for the experience and not really to watch the race.
